The government's pensions dashboard project has been delayed due to IT problems related to linking individual pension accounts.

The dashboard system was due to launch to the public in late 2024, while pension providers were due to start uploading pensions data from September. However, the government has announced that the plan is now halted and that the launch date is under review. An update on the timetable will be made this summer.

Pensions dashboards will allow individuals to view personalised information about their pensions, including state pension entitlement and lost pension pots, in one place online.

Laura Trott, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Pensions, said: 'The project is a significant undertaking, requiring the development of new technology that will permit individuals to find their pensions by searching thousands of pension schemes which collectively hold millions of pensions records.

'More time is needed to deliver this complex build, and for the pensions industry to help facilitate the successful connection of a wide range of different IT systems to the dashboard's digital architecture.

'Given these delays, I have initiated a reset of the pensions dashboards programme in which DWP will play a full role. The new chair of the programme board will develop a new plan for delivery.'
